Pixarpedia Terms and Conditions

  1. No purchase necessary to enter the competition
  2. This competition is open to UK residents aged 16 years or over, with the exception of employees of the Promoter, their families, agents and anyone else connected with this promotion.
  3. Entries must be received by midnight on 29 November 2009. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any entries that are incomplete, illegible, corrupted or fail to reach the Promoter by the relevant closing date for any reason. Proof of posting or sending is not proof of receipt. Entries via agents or third parties are invalid. Entries become the property of the Promoter and are not returned.
  4. Only one entry per person. No entrant may win more than one prize.
  5. To enter, entrants must create an original animation of their own creation based on the theme of 'an animated adventure'. Then complete the entry form on www.dk.com/pixarpedia, and upload your animation to your own account on www.youtube.com. All entries must be a maximum of 2 minutes long and no larger than 1GB in size. The recommended resolution is: 1280 x 720 (16 x 9 HD) and 640 x 480 (4:3 SD). The video frame rate should be the same as the original where possible. Video Format: H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 preferred, Aspect Ratio: Native aspect ratio without letterboxing (examples: 4:3, 16:9), Audio Format: MP3 or AAC preferred and Frames per second: 30
  6. All correctly completed entries will be added to our dedicated YouTube channel www.youtube.com/pixarpedia and then forwarded to a judging panel made up of a DK editor, DK marketing director and dk.com editor who will select a shortlist of 10 entries. The shortlisted entries will then be forwarded to Pixar's lead artists on the film 'UP' who will select the winner. The winner will be the entry that in the opinion of that judge is the most creative animation.
  7. The prize for the winner is a trip for two to San Francisco; including two return economy class flights from London to San Francisco, plus three nights bed and breakfast accommodation for two in San Francisco to be chosen at the discretion of the Promoter. If the winner is under the age of 18 years, they must be accompanied by an adult. The prize also includes transport to and from the Pixar studios, a tour of Pixar studios and a meet with the filmmakers. Any expenses not specifically described as included in the prize are excluded. The prize does not include: ground and air transportation and transfers in the UK and USA, including to and from the international airports from which the winner and their chosen companion depart, spending money, personal expenses, food and drink, health and travel insurance, gratuities, additional accommodation expenses such as telephone calls, upgrades and incidentals, and all applicable taxes. All such expenses on receipt and use of the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner (or their accompanying adult). Both the winner and their chosen companion are responsible for obtaining all necessary health and travel insurance, visas and valid passports for travel to the destination. All travelling dates and times are subject to availability and will be specified to you in writing once the winner is announced. In the event that you cannot make these dates, no alternative dates will be possible and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to a substitute winner.
  8. Second prize is a First For Film subscription package from Total Film with a total value of over £200, plus five lucky runners up will win a copy of Pixarpedia.
  9. Prizes are subject to availability. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Promoter reserves the right (a) to substitute alternative prizes of equivalent or greater value and (b) in exceptional circumstances to amend or foreclose the promotion without notice. No correspondence will be entered into.
  10. The prizes are non-transferrable and no cash alternative will be offered.
  11. The winner and runners up will be notified via email or post by 31st December 2009. The winner and runners up must claim their prize within 14 working days of the Promoter sending notification. If the prize is unclaimed after this time, it will lapse and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner or runner up selected in accordance with these rules.
  12. By entering this competition each entrant confirms that his/her entry is their wholly-owned creation and to the extent that such entry makes use of any third party materials that these have been fully cleared unless they are no longer protected by copyright or other intellectual property rights. Entrants will keep the Promoter harmless from any claims in relation to their entry that the entry infringes the personal or proprietary right of any other person. By submitting an entry, each entrant (or their parent/guardian on their behalf) grants to the Promoter a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to edit, publish, translate, modify, adapt, make available and distribute the entry throughout the world in any media now known or hereafter invented. Each entrant (or their parent/guardian on their behalf) undertakes to complete any necessary documentation to formalise the licence. If you do not want to grant us these rights, please do not submit materials to us.
  13. The Promoter is running this competition in conjunction with Pixar. By entering this competition each entrant confirms that he or she understands and acknowledges that Pixar receives many submissions of creative materials from third parties; that it is continually developing in-house ideas, stories, and creative materials; and that many such submissions and/or developments may be similar or identical to the entrant's submission to the competition (the Material) or elements of the Material. The entrant understands and agrees that Pixar's use of materials or properties containing elements similar or identical to the Material shall not obligate Pixar to the entrant in any manner if Pixar shall have developed or obtained such material independently or from sources other than the entrant or the Promoter. Without limiting the foregoing, the entrant agrees that, to the extent that the Material includes material that is in the public domain or owned by a third party, Pixar will have the same rights in such material as any member of the general public. If you do not accept this please do not submit your entry to the competition.
  14. To obtain details of the winner and runners up please email dkchildrensmarketing@uk.dk.com stating the name of the competition in the subject heading four weeks after the closing date.
  15. The Promoter will use any data submitted by entrants only for the purposes of running the competition, unless otherwise stated in the entry details. By entering this competition, all entrants consent to the use of their personal data by the Promoter for the purposes of the administration of this competition and any other purposes to which the entrant has consented.
  16. The winner and runners up agree to take part in reasonable post event publicity and to the use of their names and photographs in such publicity.
  17. By entering the competition each entrant agrees to be bound by these terms and conditions.
