'A very factual book which touches on everything in the 20th Century. Unfortunately war is a big part of what shapes our nations - hence the main focus in the book. Very interesting, particularly events that have happened away from UK shores. Good for dipping in and out of and for browsing through at leisure. A good overview in just the right amount of detail. Also suitable for older children to dip in and out of. Recommended.'

'20th Century is a great quick reference/coffee table book. It has a great cover which begs to be picked up and touched. The pictures are eye catching, relevant and attractive; the format is easy to follow, dedicating a chapter to each historical development or series of events. A bit like an encyclopaedia, it''s great to flip through and get the key points of the topic, event or year you''re interested in. Everyone in the family picked it up, several times, enjoyed browsing through and found numerous chapters that made them want to read more; from Grandad to kids, it was enjoyed by all.'

'This is a beautiful book which chronicles the important events of the 20th century using a series of stunning photography, comment, text and timelines. If you are looking for an in-depth historical account then this isn''t the right book but if you want to have a book that you can pick up and put down at your leisure and dip into whenever you like then this is perfect. It is a visual guide so most of the information is put across in that medium. I think this would be a perfect gift book, perhaps for a teenager with an interest in history, or for an adult who enjoys news, history and photography. The book is beautifully made, from the high quality cover to the paper used to print inside. It is definitely a book that I keep picking up. I''ll read a few pages then put it down again. Some of the most iconic images of the 20th century are included within. It would grace any bookshelf or coffee table. I would definitely recommend it.'

'"20th Century" is quite brief and focuses on war/bad events and quite depressing ways to show how the century was shaped. Overall a good general book for quick information if you are a student and need reference. This is a basic, "get the gist" of what happened kind of book that needs to be more than sad/depressing things.'

'This book, like many other DK publications, is a labour of love. The care that has gone into the edition is wonderful to see. It manages to distill an entire century of incredible events into a beautiful image laden tome. It''s not a book for a research student or a history professor, the level of depth is not there but it''s simply not possible given the scope this book tries to cover. If there is a criticism, it could be that just two pages are devoted to the digital revolution and no mention of the arpanet, founding of apple/microsoft/google etc. Then again this criticism could be labeled at any particular interest a person has, be it sports or technology for example. What this book has done wonderfully is wrap up a century of highs, lows, happiness, sadness and incredible moments into a beautiful coffee tome that can be read and enjoyed by any age. Simply put, another must read from DK!!!!'
