'This book is a sumptuous journey around Italy. I found it a different approach to travel books in that it separated locations by the time of year it is best to visit.
Stunning illustrations throughout and a comprehensive account of activities available throughout the year in areas all around Italy.
This book is a joy to read and will provide useful reference for years to come.
Even my Italian friends were impressed by the detail the book goes in to and it''s one to be dipped into and enjoyed even when one isn''t planning a visit to Italy.
Top marks for illustrations and text.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who has even a hankering to visit Italy, there is so much detail inside it''s covers that it would make the reader want to pack and catch the next flight out to see Italy.'

'Where To Go When: ITALY
A different type of guide book – does it match up to its title? I suppose the “proof of the pannacotta” is whether one is inspired to take on its suggestions and then whether or not the ideas were worth following. Given the timescale then the latter is impossible to know so one can only compare what is in the book with one’s knowledge of the places in the book. Where the book has information about places I have visited it broadly matches my own experiences. I cannot comment on recommendations for restaurants not visited but they do seem to be generally up market- a few low end/no frills types would be good to see.
This is a book, I would suggest, that is for planning a break not for taking with you (certainly not on a budget airline). As a result of reading the book my wish list of places I am planning to visit has grown considerably. I may well be using the book in contradiction of the title as an in when not to go to some places e.g. Venice during Carnivale when these places are most over crowded.
The coverage is comprehensive with all regions well represented and all kinds of activities covered. I do wonder if this is a downside as the breadth of cover inevitably leads to a lack of depth. Again whilst the trademark high quality DK photography is enticing and encourages the reader to visit the areas covered there is so much information squeezed on to a page that it was sometimes difficult to read and easy to miss useful tips.
Overall a book that I will use to “mark my card” for future trips to Italy but one that will need to be used with other more traditional guides one of which would be my choice if I was only buying one book.

'I was extremely impressed with the book. It was concise and it gave details of what was going on and when. It was very informative and was written in such a way that it was easy to understand. Also the photos gave you a feel for the place. It was that good that my wife and I are now deciding to make plans to go there for our 10th wedding anniversary.'
