'This is a very informative book. I really enjoyed reading about other forms of fighting from around the world. If you have ever thought "Hey I wonder how people defended or fought" this book will probably tell you. Knowing how a people fight gives you a different insight into the people themselves. '

'I bought this book in Borders. An excellent all round encyclopaedia on the martial arts. Mr Crudelli should write more books. Maybe a more specific book on each region along with articles on the famous exponents of these martial arts. Overall great content and stunning photos. '

'Without question, the most complete reference for martial arts I''ve ever seen. Even, unbiased, knowledge coverage from the familiar to the obsecure. A must have for any martial arts practitioner or fan.'

'I love the book. It''s a visual journey behind the scenes of the martial arts. I hadn''t seen Chris Crudelli''s BBC martial art TV shows before, although I had heard about them. But after reading the book I went out and got them on DVD. The Encyclopedia was not a stuffy pompus Encyclopedia writen by someone who has never had any mat time in a Dojo, but rather a real look at at what the martial practices, codes and training involve, written by a clearly passionate practitioner who has been immersed in the arts for a lifetime. I do have a criticism of the book - I have the hard back and I think it''s a little bit too big and heavy. Great for a coffee table and great to see the amazing pictures, but not great on a bookshelf due to size.'

'This is a coffee-table compendium characterised by nice pictures, over-adventurous coverage and poor scholarship. Interestingly, Howard Reid and Michael Croucher wrote a book similarly entitled "Way of the Warrior" in the early 1980''s which accompanied a BBC TV series on martial arts. Although they were not martial artists but BBC researchers / journalists - the quality of the work compared to Crudelli''s was far superior.'
