'I''m 29 weeks pregnant, & could probably be described as being officially obsessed with all things pregnancy & baby related! So guess what, I''ve read quite a few pregnancy books!
So in that context, I had a few other books to compare this one with! I found this book one of the most informative I''ve read, aswell as being really clearly laid out & easy to follow. I really like having something new to read every day, & also the fact that there''s a comprehensive index so you don''t have to flick through each day if you want to look up something specific. I''ve only seen one other day by day pregnancy book, & its not a patch on this, as this book is so much more comprehensive. This one begins with the menstrual cycle & goes right up to 2 weeks after the baby is born & also covers the 6 week check on the baby after birth.
In addition to the day by day aspect, there are also specific sections on topics such as how to have a healthy pregnancy (diet, exercise, medication etc) labour & birth, concerns & complications, & a day by day guide to the 1st few hours then weeks after the baby is born.
Everything is written clearly, & there is no unnecessary jargon, though there is a useful glossary to refer to as we all come across jargon elsewhere! There''s also a useful reference section with details of relevant organisations for everything from fertility to parent groups to rights & benefits.
The book strikes the right balance between providing a good level of information without being too text-heavy & there are lots of useful pictures & diagrams, including actual scan photos, aswell as diagrams where pictures wouldn''t be feasible. In some cases, there are both pictures & diagrams, e.g. photos of an actual birth (which are realistic but not too squeamish!) alongside diagrams of the anatomical process of giving birth. The book also describes how to do something & includes pictures to illustrate the point e.g. when describing relaxation techniques.
All in all I found this book really thorough & informative & would recommend this to other people who are either currently pregnant or trying for a baby. '
