John Wallace grew up in Market Rasen and attended De Aston School, before going on to study Theology at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge.
A self-taught artist, he has worked on the Daily Gleaner in the exotic locale of Kingston, Jamaica. Closer to home, he worked at the British Museum in London where he drew oriental objects to 1:10 scale.
His first book Little Bean was published in 1996. To date, there have been two further Little Bean adventures. John’s 1998 book The Twins is being used as the basis of a cartoon series, slated for broadcast on ITV in Autumn 2000. Cosgrove Hall is developing another of his books, Jungle Kids, for model animation.
In 1999, the irresistible Tiny Rabbit made his debut in Tiny Rabbit Goes to a Party. Tiny Rabbit bears all the hallmarks of a classic children’s character – young readers are sure to identify with him as he balances excitement and nervousness as he sets out to Blue Mouse’s birthday party. Books magazine enthused that “John Wallace has come up with a fresh and engaging character, ideal for toddlers.” Fans will be excited to know that Tiny Rabbit returns in his second adventure Tiny Rabbit Goes to the Park in Autumn 2000.
In addition to creating his own books, John has also illustrated other author’s stories. Recent projects include the Lollipops series by John Foster and The Flower Girl by Laura Godwin.
John lives and works in Brighton with his wife Sarah and two sons William, six, and Samuel, three. He enjoys visiting schools to meet his readers.
