Michael Jackson won the Glenfiddich Trophy, Britain's most prestigious award for writing on food and drink. He was a member of the Belgian Confederation of Brewers and was the only non-brewer to be so honoured. He was the first winner of the lifetime achievement award of the Institute of Brewing Studies in the United States and lectured in Washington DC at both the Smithsonian Institution and the National Geographic Society, and in New York at Cornell University and the Culinary Institute of America. In Britain, he was Patron of the Oxford University Beer Appreciation Society.
